CPT Changes - New CPT Codes '2022

Glimpses of CPT Codes Updates - Effective from January 1st 2022 There are more than 400 codes are changes in 2022 from AMA. Total number codes are changed 405 and including of followings, New Codes -  249  Revised Codes - 93  Deleted Codes - 63 More than 40% of the editorial changes are tried to new technology services described in Category III CPT codes and the continued expansion of the proprietary laboratory analyses section of the CPT code set. Five new CPT codes are created for therapeutic remote monitoring codes 98975, 98976, 98977, 98980 and 98981 to increasingly important avenue of patient care especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Usage of CPT Index - Instructions

The alphabetic index is not a substitute for the main text of the CPT codebook. Even if only one code is present, the coder must refer to the main term to ensure that the code is selected accurately and correctly to identify the services rendered. Main Terms The index is organized by main terms. Each main term can stand alone or can be followed by up to three modifying terms. There are four primary classes of main entries, Procedures or Services - E.g, Scopic, Anastomosis, Splint, Opening Organ or Other Anatomical Site - E.g, Knee, Arm, Ear, Tibia, Colon Conditions - E.g, Abscess, Entropion, Tetralogy of Fallot. Synonyms, Eponyms, and Abbreviations. - ECG, EEG, PET, Brock Operations, Clagett Procdures Modifying Terms The main term may be followed by up to three indented terms that modify the terms they follow. New Lab Codes Effective July 1, 2021

The New HCPCS Lab Codes are released which is Effective from July 1, 2021. These new codes are contractor-priced (where applicable) until they are nationally priced and undergo the CLFS annual payment determination process.  The MACs will only price PLA codes for laboratories within their jurisdiction. and Type of Service (TOS) for all the codes should be "5". 0248U - Oncology (brain), spheroid cell culture in a 3D microenvironment, 12 drug panel, tumor-response prediction for each drug. 0249U - Oncology (breast), semiquantitative analysis of 32 phosphoproteins and protein analytes, includes laser capture microdissection, with algorithmic analysis and interpretative report. 0250U - Oncology (solid organ neoplasm), targeted genomic sequence DNA analysis of 505 genes, interrogation for somatic alterations (SNVs [single nucleotide variant], small insertions and deletions, one amplification, and four translocations), microsatellite instability and tumor-mutation burden. 0251U

Five New Vaccine Codes Released - Effective July 1,2021

The CPT Editorial Panel has released early an additional five new codes in the Medicine/Vaccine, Toxoids section of the AMA’s CPT Codes.  The following codes are effective from July 1, 2021, but won’t be published until CPT 2022, 90626 Tick-borne encephalitis virus vaccine, inactivated; 0.25 mL dosage, for intramuscular use 90627 Tick-borne encephalitis virus vaccine, inactivated; 0.5 mL dosage, for intramuscular use 90671 Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, 15 valent (PCV15), for intramuscular use 90677 Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, 20 valent (PCV20), for intramuscular use 90758 Zaire ebolavirus vaccine, live, for intramuscular use These codes will be listed out of sequence. Medicare coverage will be determined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in future rulemaking.
